Toshiro Urabe, the president of the Osakana Planning
Company, said that the tuna do not need to be dosed with chemicals to keep them
tasting fresh during transportation. He added that the acupuncture can be used
on bream and the company plans to begin testing it on salmon. According to
Urabe the acupuncture would give Japanese fishermen a chance to compete in the
markets and their catch an added value.
It was first exhibited at the International Japan Seafood
Show but where the needles are inserted remains a secret. As the demand for
sushi has increased so the fishing of tunas and the markets have become more
stiff and competitive. The touch of acupuncture is just a market gimmick to
ahead with an edge.
So strange right? But I don't mind, my first love is still salmon , so please... can salmon have some acupuncture as well...lol....
So funny, last nite I ate tina sashimi, this tuna definitely has no acupuncture before, don't taste so good...haha..
ReplyDeleteI also prefer salmon :)
The sashimi here can never be compared to those in Japan itself. When I was there, me & my buddy ate everyday !!! It's just so good! I miss Japan.
DeleteThe pic is gross, feel painful for the poor fish!!!
ReplyDeleteBy the way do they feel pain?
I think "researchers" say they don't feel so much as they are fish & different from humans, but I don't believe. Have you ever gone fishing? When you see the fish struggling after getting caught with the hook, you'll understand!
DeleteI'm sure they feel pain!
DeleteBut if you look at the fish, even the one in the pic above, they don't have expression leh... like no pain expression ....
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA.... that's true, but we cant judge the fish by our human standards right?
DeleteI've heard of horses getting Acupuncture, but fishes....first time...lol... strange!
ReplyDeleteWonder how big are those acupuncture needles for horses? Horses are huge & I'm sure the skin is quite thick !
DeleteDon't think they are any bigger than the normal ones, but maybe longer ? cant imagine !
DeleteHow about dogs? I have a lovely dog who's quite sick & hates medication ...poor thing !
ReplyDeleteDogs got so much fur how to do it? And who'll do it, the vet???
DeleteHave not heard of any vets doing it!!! Where would they learn it from?
DeleteI think they can do it on horses !
DeleteI don't understand how this works? You stick those needles in this fishes, then what...? ....let them swim around with the needles all sticking out, wouldnt they thrash around after & end up hurting themselves? They cant be immobilizing them right? That'll take too much space & man power!
ReplyDeleteGood question ! Is this all a gimmick ?
DeleteNo it's not a gimmick. They really use acupuncture to put the fish to sleep so that they can transport these fishes to far away places. This way the fishes stay fresh & delicious.
DeleteActually you should watch the video, go Youtube. They don't stick those needles like in the picture. They have a kind of stationary mould or something with needles sticking out- where the needles r , are the areas which is effective. So they just place each fish onto the mould for a few seconds. The fishes got pricked by the needles that way. Then they are put into some container, then transported to those inland places. They claim it really worked.
ReplyDeleteSaw it , very interesting !
DeleteHi Bingo , any idea where I can try this kind of fish in Singapore? My bf loves seafood, thought of surprising him with something special this Christmas :)
ReplyDeleteSorry mei, got no idea !
DeleteHi Mei, you cant find it here. I saw the video too. Seems, after the acupuncture, they transport these fishes to some further away places, but it's all still in Japan. Don't think the effect will last for places outside of Japan.
DeleteVery interesting!
DeleteI'm scare of needles, wonder how the fishes take it ?
ReplyDeleteHeard fishes don't feel pain- do they ???
DeleteI'm sure they feel pain, all animals feel pain !!!
DeleteI'm sure they do .
